Seasonal maintenance on your composite pool

Extend the life of your pool, your investment, with a regular maintenance program – year round. Depending on what season you’re in and how much your pool is being used will change the maintenance needs. Here are some great tips to keep your pool in top condition, so it’s ready for use, any time.

    Summer

    • Run the filtration system 6-8 hours every day
    • Check sanitiser levels every day
    • Check the pH three times per week
    • Every week, check the Total Alkalinity (TA)
    • Thoroughly backwash your sand or DE filter or remove and clean the cartridge from your cartridge filter
    • Maintain the water level – at least half way up to the skimmer box opening
    • Regularly clean the pool and vacuum the walls and floor

    Autumn

    • Use your pool cover more
    • Clean your pool once you see autumnal leaves and other debris
    • Reduce filtration hours to 2-3 a day or in salt pools
    • Reduce the chlorine output, as you head into winter
    • Start using a wintertreatment kit.

    Winter

    • Cover the pool completely
    • Every two weeks, check the chlorine and pH levels
    • Empty the skimmer basket when full
    • Every so often, check the water level is half way up the skimmer box opening
    • Also, check the pressure gauge on the filter is not indicating ‘backwash’
    • Once a week, turn the pool lights on for at least 30 minutes a week – to avoid build-up of moisture within the light and wiring.

    Spring

    • Thoroughly clean the pool and vacuum the walls and floor
    • Check the pump is working well
    • Organise a full pool equipment service by a licensed technician
    • Check, and replace, the fittings
    • Examine for leaks
    • Every two weeks, check the chlorine and pH levels
    • Empty the skimmer basket when full
    • Check the filter pressure gauge – see if it’s indicating ‘backwash’
    • Every now and then, turn the pool lights on for at least 30 minutes a week – to avoid build-up of moisture within the light and wiring.
