  • Your timing belt. When is the right time to replace?

Fear you’re timing belt is on its way out? There’s a golden old rule when it comes to timing belts. It used to be every 50,000 kilometres that it required replacing. But with technology the way it is today, many manufacturers suggest you can get an extra 20-30,000 kilometres of usage. It’s best to check with your own manufacturer’s recommendations. Work with your mechanic to get the most out of your timing belt, without putting your safety at risk.

Here are five signs it could be time to replace:

    1. Just like tyre wear, your timing belt will lose traction, which makes the belt slip.
    1. Belt abrasion normally happens is there’s a misalignment, excessive heat or bearing failure. We’ll be able to check whether it’s been worn down.
    1. Cracking can happen over time, which indicates excessive wear.
    1. If the belt is glazed, it’s gone stiff and isn’t flexible enough anymore. We’ll check this and tell you whether it needs replacing.
    1. Misalignment wear indicates the internal parts have failed. You’ll hear a noise, feel vibrations and notice heat.

The moment you notice any of these signs, call us immediately. We’ll take a look at your car, prepare a quote for you, and discuss any questions you may have. Our timing belt replacement process is as streamlined as it gets. It’s as easy as 1, 2, and 3…
